The second wipe: the small trick that leaves counters truly clean

Here's a trick I use on every clean, and it's so simple you might think it doesn't matter. It does.

After you clean a counter or a range with detergent, wipe it again, this time with water only. Then, if you want to be thorough, wipe it once more with a dry reusable cloth.

Why it works: Detergent is made to lift dirt, but if a little of it dries on the surface, it leaves stripes you can see and a film you can feel. Your hand will catch it before your eye does. That film is what makes a "clean" counter still feel not quite clean.

How to do it:

  1. Clean as usual with your regular cleaner.

  2. Rinse your cloth well, wring it out, and wipe the whole surface again with water only.

  3. Check it with your eye and your hand. If you still feel anything slick or see stripes, do one more water-only pass.

  4. Finish with a dry reusable cloth so no water spots are left behind.

This matters most on ranges, counters, and any surface where food is prepared. A surface that feels clean to the hand is clean.

One thing to skip: Don't just add more cleaner when you see stripes. More product usually means more film, not a cleaner surface. The water-only wipe is what finishes the job.

Try it in your own kitchen this week, clean, then water-only, then dry and run your hand across the counter after. You'll feel the difference right away.

If you'd like your whole home to feel that way, we'd love to help. Call 403-866-0932 or request a quote at shineagaincleaning.com.
